WHAT IS AUTOINSTALL Installing your new programs is now as easy as double-clicking an icon! No more wondering..."Is it Setup or Install?"! AutoInstall frees you from the drudgery of entering the name of your new programs installation command in the Windows File-Run box. In almost all cases, AutoInstall automatically recognizes the presence of an installation command and runs it for you. Just double-click and install! HOW TO INSTALL AUTOINSTALL To save you download costs, AutoInstall does not include an installation program. You can install AutoInstall in one of two ways: A. Manual 1. Select and open the program group you want the AutoInstall icon to appear in. This should be a group that is usually open on your desktop, such as Main or Accessories. 2. From the File menu, choose New, then select Program Item and click on the OK button. 3. In the Description box, enter: AutoInstall In the Command Line box, enter the complete path to the AutoInstall program, followed by the name of the program, (autoinst.exe). The path will depend on where you copied and unzipped your AutoInstall program. An example might be C:\Windows\Myprograms\autoinst.exe . If you don't know the path, click on the Browse button and look through your disk for the autoinst.exe program. When you find autoinst.exe select it by clicking on the name and then clicking on the OK button. Windows will fill in the correct information in the Command Line box. 4. Click on the OK button. AutoInstall's icon should now appear in your program group. B. DRAG AND DROP 1. Select and open the program group you want AutoInstall to appear in. This should be a group that is usually open on your desktop, such as Main or Accessories. 2. Open File Manager and change to the directory you copied and unzipped the AutoInstall program in. You will see the file autoinst.exe listed in the window on the right hand side. Resize the File Manager window so that you can see both the autoinst.exe file and the program group you opened in step 1. HINT: If you don't know where the AutoInstall file is located, use the Search option on the File Manager's File menu to help you find it. Search for autoinst.exe 3. Point to the autoinst.exe file in File Manager. Press the left mouse button and hold it down. Now drag the pointer into the program group you selected in step 1, and release the mouse button. AutoInstall's icon should now appear in your program group. HOW TO USE AUTOINSTALL 1. When you are ready to install a new program, simply double click on AutoInstall's icon. AutoInstall will search your floppy and CD-ROM drives for an installation program. In most cases, AutoInstall will automatically find the installation program and start it. AutoInstall will also automatically exit. 2. In rare cases, AutoInstall may not find an installation program and ask you for help. If this occurs, AutoInstall will ask you for the name and location of the installation program. A. Select the drive the installation program is on from the drive list. B. Select the directory the installation program is in from the directory list. C. Select the installation program filename from the filename list. D. Click on the Install button.
